PVR Logo A Brasil - United States Collaboration in Solar Energy

New Orleans, June 14-19, 2015

June heralds the Americas foremost conference on the science and technology of photovoltaics, the 42nd IEEE Photovoltaics Specialists Conference, being held in New Orleans, June 14-19, 2015. Research work from our project will be presented in an oral paper "Fundamental Studies of the Adhesion of Dust to PV Module Surfaces: Chemical and Physical relationships at the Microscale". The research co-authors are: Lawrence L. Kazmerski, Antonia Sonia A.C. Diniz, Cristiana Brasil Maia, Marcelo Machado Viana, Pedro Brito, Suellen C. Costa, Lauro V. Machado Neto, Leila de Oliveira Cruz, and Sergio Hanriot.

These fundamental studies describe for the first time the adhesive mechanisms of individual soiling particles to the surface of PV modules, linking these adhesive forces with the surface chemistry, composition, and topography of the dust particles themselves. The data have been gained using nanoscale proximal probe measurements. For more information on this paper and the IEEE PVSC program and events, see www.ieee-pvsc.org.
